More Information About Southeast & The Keys Region, FL

The Southeast & The Keys region of Florida includes a widely diverse area from quiet, unpopulated central areas with "Old Florida" feel to vibrant resort cities. The climate in this region has a subtropical wet-and-dry climate which means cold fronts are not uncommon from November through March but most of the year is warm and humid.

This region offers some of the most beautiful pristine beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to the beaches, the region has some of the most vibrant cities including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach where a variety of different languages are spoken.

There are several national parks and preserves in this region too. The Everglades National Park has over 1.5 million acres and is the 3rd largest national park in the lower 48 states. Adjacent to the Everglades National Park is the Big Cypress National Preserve which protects over 700,000 acres of freshwater swamp and is essential to the health of the Everglades ecosystem.

Included in this region is the Florida Keys. The Keys are an archipelago of about 1,700 islands extending south and southwest of the Florida mainland. The Keys do not offer too much sightseeing but most people come for the beaches. However, a popular activity is scuba diving. Biscayne National Park up to Key West has beautiful reefs, tropical waters, and a very diverse marine life. Some of the popular dive sites are Spiegel Crove, North Dry Rocks, and the USNS Vandenberg.
