The Mountains region of North Carolina offers a vast assortment of activities for all seasons. A scenic drive to see the fall colors on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a great way to enjoy the spectacular views from Cherokee to the Virginia-North Carolina border. There are three primary mountain ranges in the area including the Black Mountains, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the Great Smoky Mountains.

The Pisgah National Forest in the southern Appalachian Mountains offers a wide range of hiking trails and rivers for fly fishing. There are also 88 miles of the Appalachian Trail that wind through the North Carolina Mountains. There are also a number of fantastic waterfalls in the area including Dry Falls, Cullasaja Falls, Bridal Ceil Falls, Linville Falls, and Laurel Falls. In the winter, the Appalachian Ski Mountain in Watauga County is the perfect location for a family ski vacation. During hunting season, you can find black bears, white-tail deer, and wild turkeys in the area.

Clingmans Dome on the Tennessee-North Carolina border is the highest mountain in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. The trails and observation trail offer spectacular views of the area.
