More Information About Northeast Mountains Region, PA

The Northeast Mountains region of Pennsylvania is a playground for those who enjoy the outdoors. This region offers state forests, state parks, game lands, and designated natural areas for people to enjoy. There are two mountain ranges you should visit while in this region which are the Poconos Mountains and the Endless Mountains. Both mountain ranges offer a great mix of activities for all seasons.

In the northern section of this region one can explore the Endless Mountains located in the counties of Bradford County, Sullivan County, Susquehanna County, and Wyoming County. The highest peak in the region is the North Knob of Elk Mountain.

To the south, Monroe County has the biggest variety of areas for activities. Big Pocono State Park, Tobyhanna State Park, Gouldsboro State Park all offer opportunities for hunting, fishing, and great hiking trails. Monroe County also has the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area that boasts 100 miles of trails, boating in the river, 30 miles of bike trails, in addition to fishing and hunting.

In the colder months skiers visit the resorts including Shawnee Mountain Ski Area and Jack Frost Big Boulder Ski Area. Both are a skier's paradise and perfect for a day of any winter sport. Outdoor areas continue in the region's other counties as well such as the Lackawanna State Park or Frances Slocum State Park. A popular spot is the Bushkill Falls which people call the Niagara of Pennsylvania where there is hiking, fishing, paddle boats, and the occasional weekend wedding taking place.
